What temperatures should I use for coconut wax candles?
Short answer
Melt fully at about 70 °C, add fragrance at 55–60 °C, pour at 55–60 °C, and never exceed 85 °C.
Explanation
The book's reference card for coconut wax: container wax melts at 43–45 °C and mold wax at 57–63 °C. Melt completely at about 70 °C in a double boiler on low heat. Add solid dyes at 70–80 °C and liquid dyes at 55–60 °C. Warm containers to about 40 °C before pouring. Candle gel is different: it melts and pours at about 90–105 °C and must never exceed 110 °C.
What to do
- Use a kitchen thermometer; don't judge temperature by eye.
